Hello Listers Does anyone have any ideas where to find these? Regards Jan
Thanks Elaine - I've been looking up people (and found some who's whereabouts I had never discovered!!) but didn't think of Goodson's Arcade - looking under Goodson I found details of burglaries and a firs and my gt grandfather's bankruptvy. Thanks for your help. Regards Jan PS I always read your postings!! ----- Original Message -----
Once again Elaine, thank you for posting this link to Papers Past. If I had seen it previously, I had forgotten it. And of course I will repeat my thanks for your continual transcriptions posted on here for all of us. I do hope that you have obtained assistance from others in your recent postings for information on some of your own people. However, the main reason for this posting is this: I used Papers Past to search in old Auckland newspapers for family members (DAY) and found a shipping record in August 1851 for a Mrs DAY & 3 children on the "Emma"; which may very well be our family. (We had previously found an index card entry for this in the old Auckland library indexes, many many years ago). The newspaper report mentions at its conclusion: "J. WOODHOUSE, Agent". So I am assuming that to mean that he was the shipping agent who handled that ship. My question to the list is this please: Would anyone know if any business records might still exist, which had belonged to Mr WOODHOUSE, which might throw further light on these passengers? Yes, I know that this is a long-shot, but sometimes miracles do happen. LOL. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help with this query. Best wishes to all: Ray in oz. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elaine Mattsen" <mattsen@paradise.net.nz> To: <nz-auckland@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 22, 2007 5:13 AM Subject: [NZ-AUCKLAND] GOODSON's Arcade > Papers Past > http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz
Hi Jan I lived in wonderful Fiji in the late 70's so I know a little about that wonderful country. Fiji was still under British rule in the 1930's and the Brits set up the Government Departments similar to Australia and New Zealand so I looked up the Government of Fiji website www.fiji.gov.fj/ and found this Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages Department Suvavou Hse Victoria Pde, Suva Phone: (679) 3315280 Fax: (679) 3304917 Good Luck Donna ----- Original Message ----- From: Jan & Stuart Moon <stu_jan52@activ8.net.au> Date: Monday, October 22, 2007 7:07 am Subject: [NZ-AUCKLAND] Births/Deaths in Suva, Fiji - 1930's To: nz-auckland@rootsweb.com > Hello Listers > Does anyone have any ideas where to find these? > Regards > Jan > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NZ- > AUCKLAND-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
Papers Past http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz Hi Jan have you tried this site which is the papers past archives and some of the papers are searchable and I use this site often. When you get to the home page by clicking above you press the search button on the top and put Goodson's Arcade you will come up with about 500 items. The ones I sent direct to you are just some on the first page. If you wish to narrow it down just select one of the newspapers in the drop down box out of the available papers to refine your search. Elaine
Hi Ray Have you tried the National Maritime Museum- it is based in Auckland and have a wonderful friendly staff who may be able to help you. The website is www.nzmaritimeindex.org.nz. If you are in Auckland it is worth going to have a look -it is near the America's Cup Village just on the left hand side of Princes Wharf. A quiet wedding was solemnised at the Cathedral yesterday afternoon, Dean HOVELL being the celebrant, when Dr. ATTERBURY, of Akaroa, Canterbury, was married to Miss Ethel Jane Forster HILL, daughter of Mr Thomas HILL, late Collector of Customs at Auckland. The bride, who was attired in white, was attended by the Misses RINGWOOD and Von DADELZEN, Mr C. KENNEDY acting as the bridegroom's best man. Mr G.N. PIERCE gave the bride away. At the conclusion of the ceremony Mr Maughan BARNETT played the "Wedding March," and the bridal party drove to the residence of Mr PIERCE, where the toast of "Health, Wealth, and Prosperity" to the bride and bridgeroom was drunk with enthusiasm.

Good Morning, About 1946 one Alan Clark DUNDAS went to New Zealand from Melbourne. He was born in suburban Melbourne on 14th November, 1911. I am searching for his means of arrival in New Zealand as well as the date. He spent 4 years during WW2 in the Royal Australian Air Force. His first marriage in 1931 had failed by 1945. I have no details of another marriage in New Zealand but it is possible. I'm also seeking his date and place of death on the assumption that he has died by now. ANY information will be gratefully received. I do realise this is fairly big ask. Regards, Chris in South Australia
