Captain MORGAN of the barque Peebleshire is seriously ill in Lyttelton, and it has been arranged that the chief officer is to take the vessel Home. The barque sailed on Saturday evening under charge of her new skipper Captain HANNAH. The American schooner Winnie Lawrey arrived at New York from Hayti on March 25th having been 105 days out and 60 of these short of food. Three of the crew were missing and could not satisfactorily be accounted for. It was stated that the missing men were killed and eaten to save the rest from starvation, but the captain emphatically denied the statement.

    3. Hello Ray Yes. Ashes can be "returned" to the family for scattering or interring at some other place, or "returned" to the Funeral Director for safe keeping.........and until the Account is paid in some cases. What names are you researching for this information? 3. Dear Fellow Listers I have close relatives whose bodies are buried in this cemetery( Mangere ) In addition I have now learned of some relatives whose ashes are buried there , too , even though their online records indicate( to me ) Purewa as being their final resting place . The penny has now dropped and I realise that a cremation at Purewa Crematorium does not neccessarily mean that intenment took place at Purewa Cemetery. When the Purewa Cemetery and Crematorium online records give 'Burial & cremation Details ', I guess the key words are those entered alongside the sub-heading 'Ashes Disposal' ...................... In each case that I am interested in the wording is 'Retuned'. So if the ashes from Purewa Crematorium are returned can we take it that Purewa Cemetery is not their final resting place ? How can we access the burial records for Mangere Lawn Cemetery , I now wonder ? Cheers Ray. _________________________________________________________________ Live Search delivers results the way you like it. Try live.com now! http://www.live.com

    3. Hi Ray The New Zealand Society of Genealogists ( very worth joining- their library in Panmure Auckland is awesome and they have great support groups all over the country) have all the NZ Cemetery transcriptions or you could try emailing the librarian at Manukau City Library- their website gives this email address Jbshara@manukau.govt.nz maybe that person will do a look up for you- or (if you live in New Zealand) your nearest large city library should have the cemetery transcriptions in their Social Science section or Central Research section Donna Kiwi in Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: "ray Rob" <rayrobt@hotmail.com> To: <nz-auckland-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2007 5:37 AM Subject: [NZ-AUCKLAND] Purewa Cremarorium And Mangere Lawn Cemetery ,Kirkbride Road. > Dear Fellow Listers > > I have close relatives whose bodies are buried in this cemetery( > Mangere ) > In addition I have now learned of some relatives whose ashes are buried > there , too , even though their online records indicate( to me ) Purewa as > being their final resting place . 3. I would suggest she was a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph founded in Australia by the Blessed Mary MacKillop. They were colloquially known as the Brown Joeys. They are based in New Zealand at Mission Bay in Auckland. Their archives can be reached on sisters-of-st-joseph@extra.co.nz Regards Chris in Adelaide S.A.

I guess its possible for some to remain Novices in the Sisterhood. If she was in a Roman Catholic Order she definitely wouldnt retire, she would be in the Order until she died. It would mean a bit of research to confirm perhaps. Maybe writing to the Order might be able to turn up some records for you. GIBSON, who has been for many years past in the Napier Office of the Government Insurance Department, has been appointed to represent the Colonial Mutual Assurance Society in this district in conjunction with Messrs BAKER and TABUTEAU, district agents for the society. In losing Mr GIBSON the government will miss the services of a very zealous and efficient officer, to whom we hope the new appointment will mean well deserved advancement.
