McConnell. Both the Scotts and the McConnells lived in Steuben and Yates counties so I'm posting my message to both. What has been recorded about Virginia is vague and not at all flattering. On Christmas Day, 1884, Ira McConnell took his own life, a shocking occurence at any time or place, but he chose to do it on a holiday at his residence when his wife and two sons were home. The oldest son, my great-grandfather, Edward A. McConnell, had left years before, claiming cruel treatment from his stepmother. A recent find from the Yates County Chronicle provides more information concerning this mystery. 29 January 1886: "Mrs. Virginia McConnell, of Italy, publishes in the Prattsburgh News a card denying many accusations that she says have been made against her. Among them was the statement that she tortured her late husband into giving her a deed of his farm." Does anyone know anything about this? Her side of the story, perhaps? Any information would be appreciated. Kathy McConnell Hudson Kailua, Hawaii Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
