Either way is much closer than the way the average American might attempt to say it. It's lovely country. My husband and I spent about a week in southwest Scotland in 2006 and another week traveling between Glasgow and Stonehaven, stopping in St. Andrew's to play golf. It would be impossible to say which area was our favorite. If any McConnells were still in Troquhain in the 1840s, they were not my direct line. I trace my direct McConnell line to Northumberland county, PA during the Revolutionary War. From there, they settled in Seneca county, NY then on to Steuben, arriving in Yates county in the early 1800s. In order to sort out all the McConnells in the Steuben-Yates ares, I've traced the other McConnell lines and determined that my line is not connected to that of your Hulse/Hults line. There may also be a third unrelated McConnell line in the area. The family history states that our line left Scotland in the late 1600s/early 1700s and spent a generation or two in northern Ireland before arriving in the colonies. That is why I'm trying to find out why my great-grandfather referred to Troquhain as our home village. I may never know but was hoping that you could provide a clue. Are you related to Alan Coombs? I found his chart on the Kennedys years ago on a Family Tree Maker CD. Thanks for your help. Kathy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
