Does anyone have info on Joseph Mark who died about 1809 and was a resident the former town of Augusta, Ontario Co. (now Middlesex and Potter, Yates County)? In his will, he mentions his wife Christianna, 4 children (no first names), and his friend Jacob Showman. This couple is a strong candidate for parents of Elizabeth Marks wife of Thomas B. Smith (who lived mostly in Seneca, Ontario County and also Jerusalem) and of Jacob Marks, probable husband of Betsey who died in 1848. Clues - Elizabeth Marks Smith, was born in 1798 in Yates (which didn't technically exist yet). Joseph Mack is in Augusta in 1800 and had 2 daughters less than 10 years old. Jacob Marks was born in about 1805, so could have been 3rd or 4th child of Joseph. Jacob named his oldest son Joseph. Joseph's close friendship w/ Jacob Showman may have introduced the name 'Jacob' to the family line. Early death of parents may partly explain the difficulty in locating them. If additional info that supports or overturns this theory would be appreciated. Teresa
