Swegle has been spelled; Swegals, Sweagles, Swegles. Here is the information I know about this Swegle family. Matthias Swegel b. abt 1758 d. abt 1796 at age 38. Matthias married Amy Finton b. 1758 Ireland or Phillips Patent, Dutchess, NY. d. 7 Oct 1848 Barrington, Yates, NY. Amy is the daughter of William Finton (family lore; William lived to be 110) and Mary Unknown, parents immigration from Ireland. Amy's headstone is found at Lakeview Cemetery. Matthias had sister, Margaret Sweglas b. 1763 d. 30 Mar 1822 Barrington, Yates, NY of measles. Margaret married Joseph F. Finton b. 1761 Phillips Patent, Dutchess, NY d. 23 Oct 1851 Barrington, Yates, NY. After the death of Matthias Swegle his wife, Amy and their two children, John Swegle and Julia Swegle came to live with Amy's sister, Margaret and her husband, Joseph F. Finton. It is believed that John Swegle married Elizabeth Watkins. We have no more information on John and Elizabeth. John's sister, Julia Swegle b. abt 1778 d. 6 Oct 1879 married Jacob Smith. Julia and Jacob have two children: Benson and Stout. Benson Smith b. abt 1825 d. ?. Benson married Jemima (Mina) Hallett b. abt 1823 d. ?. 1880 Benson found living in Crystal Springs, Yates, NY. He was a hotel keeper. Stout Smith b. abt 1821 d. ?. Stout married Susan Ann Taylor b. abt 1825 d. ?. Susan is the sister of Jonathan Taylor. Stout and Susan had children: Julia b. abt 1845 d. ?. Omer Smith b. abt 1847 d. ?. In 1850 the Stout Smith family was living in Barrington, Yates, NY. In 1860 the Stout Smith family was living in Tyrone, Schuyler, NY. Also in both 1850 and 1860 a Hiley Taylor no age given was living with this family. Additional notes on this family found on Finton Genealogy Chart by Ruth Guile states: Jacob Smith's people from Portsmouth, Ohio use to visit my grandfather and were related to Omer Smith. Fenton of Portsmouth, Ohio use to visit. Wycoffs and Smiths use to visit my grandfather, Joseph S. Fenton. Mrs. Smith thought that Mrs. Wycoff was a sister to great grand father.
