Author: MarkRPutnam Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.yates/842.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In the 1800 New York Census of Otsego Co., there is a Sylvanus Hedges who is surrounded by Abraham D. Hedges and Thomas Hedges who appear to have been Sylvanus' sons. In the 1790 New York Census of Warwick, Orange Co., Syvlanus and Abraham D. Hedges are listed next to the Edsall families. I think that William Hedges your relative was a son of Thomas Hedges. My g-grandfather William C. Putman was suppose to have been the uncle of Martha Ellis who parents were Joshua Ellis and Amelia Hedges. Amelia was born in Port Colbourne, Ontario, CAN, and was the daughter of an unknown Hedges and Hannah Edsall. My guess currently is that Thomas Hedges was Amelia's father. In the 1810 New York Census, a Thomas Hedges appears in Otsego with two males under 10 years of age. One of Thomas' could have been William Hedges. William Hedges, your relative, is next to Jesse Eaton in the 1830 New York Census I believe in Barrington, Yates Co., NY, next to Jesse Eaton. In the 1880 New York Census, Jesse Eaton's son Alonzo Eaton and his wife have Peter Putman in their household. Peter is the assumed brother of my g-grandfather William C. Putman. Peter was born about 1812 in NY, and William C. was born in 1834 in NY. There are a lot of coincidences in the information that may lead to solving who was William Hedges' father and if or how he connects with my Putman family.
