I've seen that lots of places but I can't find any proof that Homer and Sarah were his parents. Samuel's death certificate doesn't have anything for them. All the census records for Samuel state his parents were from New York and all of them for Homer except the 1850 say his were from Connecticut. The obit has that he was born in Rensselaer County but a professional for that county couldn't find anything for him so I'm trying to find my 3rd great grandparents. What a fantastic resource page: http://www.newyorkroots.org/yates/yatesresources.htm Thank you to each of you for your suggestions. Below I will also post a further explanation; I should have put a bit more thought into my original post. I am attempting to become aware of any organization, in this county, that considers itself to have a genealogical function. Genealogical function may include, but is not limited to, genealogical societies, lineage societies, historical societies, libraries with local history and genealogical collections and archives and family societies. If your organization is in existence, with many or few members, please contact me. My request is both for my individual research and to share with my fellow researchers who are members to the New York State Council of Genealogical Organizations. Thank you and I appreciate all information received, you may also contact me off list if you would like.

Not sure if we are after the same Kelsey family. I am looking for william and Harriet Chamberlain Kelsey. He appears to have died in 1849 while she and children (probably William, George, Charles, James, Albert Curtis and Harriet) remained in and around the county for another 5 or so years. Willing to share what I have if we are looking at the same kelsey family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: junevan1066 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.yates/1915/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have recently come into possession of a large collection of genealogical material from a cousin who was a professional genealogist for many years. In the collection is a rather large folder of research she compiled on the Yates Family of Pittstown, NY. The genealogical info begins with Richard Yate, noted Loyalist who was a British aide-de-camp and merchant in NYC. It continues at least partially for 5 generations, ending with a focus on Huldah Jane Warren, born 1830 who married Addison Goodnell and brother William R. Warren who married Jeannie E Smith. There is also a note that says "The English Yates family are not to be confused with the Dutch Yates Family who are in colonial times, numerous in the Albany-Troy-Schenectady area and beyond." In addition to the genealogical info, the folder also contains newspaper articles and book excerpts about this family. Since these families are not in my direct line, I would love to put them in the hands of someone who is in one of these lines and would appreciate having them. If you would like to have them, please e-mail me privately at junevan@mindspring.com with a snail mail address where you would like them mailed. First reply gets the folder! I don't want any money. I'd just like to pass them on. June in GA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Since no birth record could be found and Rufus died intestate, this was accomplished by using land records, in which all the names of his children and their spouses (except those of the two youngest children) are recorded. In Sep 1828, the land that was owned by Rufus Edson, Sr. at the time of his death was transferred from ownership by all ten of his children to the sole ownership of his youngest son, Bezaleel Edson. As in most 19th century documents, the spelling is creative, but I have transcribed it as it is written in the original. "This Indenture made the eighteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight between Rufus Edson and Sibbel his wife, Dan Edson and Esther his wife, Abner Greenwood and Polly his wife, Marcus Edson and Rachel his wife, Cephas Hayes and Hesediah his wife, Amos Arnold and Eliza his wife, Calvin Barden and Philesa his wife, Moses Barden and Margaret his wife and Mary Ann Edson of the first part and Besella Edson of the second part." There is much more to the proof provided to the DAR...copies of the 1816 sale of the land from Rufus Jr. to Rufus Sr., original and transcript, the entire 1828 deed, original and transcript, and a local obituary for Rufus Sr. Anyone who would like to join a lineage society based on their descent through this line and need to prove the link of Rufus to one of his children, please contact me directly. This message is also posted to the Edson message board, along with other messages concerning Abel Edson, Revolutionary War patriot, DAR Ancestor no. A209134. The site is www.yatespast.org. Go to the Musuem Store or Shop. Scroll down and you will find a book titled "starkey Diaries". This book has the information on our families. Rick McAlpin helped write this book and he is the one who provided me with most of my genealogy on this family. Let me know if you want any further information. I love Yates County. I found so much online from that county that I can never find in other places. I will purchase that book on Monday. Since I have gotten away from my genealogy, I can't remember what I have or need. Not fun after spending so much time putting it all together and the time spent, but I will do it. I probably sent you all I had on those two families. The best part of course were the photos. If you're going to send that stuff along to him go ahead. "On fire" and "burned out" are pretty good expressions when it comes to genealogy..... I've been both. I'm heavily involved with the Yates County Historical Society in Penn Yan. If you go to our webpage www.yatespast.org and click on "Museum Store" ... and scroll down .... there is a book called "Starkey Diaries" which was done by myself and a distant cousin a number of years ago. There are many references in there to both the Steegars and Tetors. The book can be ordered over the phone with a charge card. The money goes to the society. Sorry, not sure but I think it is you. It has been a very long time and I had received this note from another family of the Teetors and Steegers. I have what you sent me, but I had computer issues which I hope to get resolved soon, then can share with him if you dont' mind. I suggested he go to my Ancestory Family Tree and look at the Teetor Family Tree. I dont have your pictures posted on there but do have them I believe in my own family tree maker. You are more than welcome to help with his search if you would like. I know you have and know much more than I do. I guess I got burnt out of genealogy for a couple of years so am just now getting back to it.
