W. Knight & Son Inc. if you search on fultonhistory.com and if you link those up with the Ancestry records, you can probably put together quite a good picture of them. I know because I keep coming across them in my search for my husband's great-grandfather Hammond Knight (born in Norfolk, England) who was in Seneca Falls for a short period during the 1880's. Hope this helps. Jill Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. (William was well off and ran a large Mill in Vermillion County.) Incidentally--my GG Grandmother was Amelia Hedges, William's youngest child. I sure wish we could prove this. I went to NY to try to find more on my William but was unsuccessful in attaching him to any of the Hedges from NY. I did find the 3 men you listed and felt that one of them must be my William's father. I have a neat article about how William Hedges was doing government surveys in Indiana and went back to NY where he married Permelia Alden. They both came back to Indiana to settle on land given to them by the gov't. In census searching I found a John Hedges born about 1790 in NY and a Josiah Hedges born about 1805 in NY living in Vermillion County, IN very near my William. It is all too coincidental to not be connected. Thank you again for this info. I will certainly follow up on it!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Your William born about 1801 may be a nephew, but I don't think that he is a son of the first William Hedges. My g-grandfather William C. Putman married Mary Chambers whose grandparents were from Milo, Yates Co., NY, too, which is just above the town of Barrington. There were a number of Hedges who lived in Milo who I feel were all relatives of Sylvanus Hedges. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: MarkRPutnam Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.yates/842.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In the 1800 New York Census of Otsego Co., there is a Sylvanus Hedges who is surrounded by Abraham D. Hedges and Thomas Hedges who appear to have been Sylvanus' sons. In the 1790 New York Census of Warwick, Orange Co., Syvlanus and Abraham D. Hedges are listed next to the Edsall families. I think that William Hedges your relative was a son of Thomas Hedges. My g-grandfather William C. Putman was suppose to have been the uncle of Martha Ellis who parents were Joshua Ellis and Amelia Hedges. Amelia was born in Port Colbourne, Ontario, CAN, and was the daughter of an unknown Hedges and Hannah Edsall. My guess currently is that Thomas Hedges was Amelia's father. In the 1810 New York Census, a Thomas Hedges appears in Otsego with two males under 10 years of age. One of Thomas' could have been William Hedges. William Hedges, your relative, is next to Jesse Eaton in the 1830 New York Census I believe in Barrington, Yates Co., NY, next to Jesse Eaton. In the 1880 New York Census, Jesse Eaton's son Alonzo Eaton and his wife have Peter Putman in their household. Peter is the assumed brother of my g-grandfather William C. Putman. Peter was born about 1812 in NY, and William C. was born in 1834 in NY. There are a lot of coincidences in the information that may lead to solving who was William Hedges' father and if or how he connects with my Putman family. I am glad you gave me the fulton search site!! It is so very interesting. I found the obituaries you told about. I will so some research here in town about Lewis Cadwell. I think they made a mistake when they put Grace's last name as Goodwell in Nettie's obituary. I have found all sorts of articles about my Conley family. One I found by mistake is an article about Belle Ford Conley the third wife of Oliver Conley the son of my third great grandfather. They were married sometime after Oliver's wife and son, Harry, were killed in a freak accident. It seems Hannah Northrup (Judy Bailey thinks this is her name) was in the basement skimming milk and step-son, Harry Conley was carrying a pail and a child when a bolt of lightening came through the house and killed them instantly. The child he was carrying survived. There is an article about it in the Ontario County Journal dated Friday, July 26, 1889. Oliver died on May 11,1908 and Belle married Charles Robie Mills on April 7, 1912 in Hemlock and died on September 1920 according to one of the newspapers for 1920. "The body of Mrs. Belle Conley Mills was brought to Branchport for burial on Monday 13th. She was partially run over by a train of cars in Rochester and died before she could be conveyed to a hospital. She was the step-mother of Mrs. May Conley Chase." Hopefully I can do a little digging to find out a little more about her marriage and his death. I hope I can find out where she was buried as I cannot find it on line in the Yates County genweb site. The Conleys who were killed live in South Bristol on Tower Hill the highest pinnacle in Ontario County. Judith and I haven't been able to find out where they are buried. And if Mrs. Conley was Hannah Northrup Conley. Oliver was the son of my 3rd great grandfather. So I am going to be spending some time on this website looking. I really appreciate all the help you have given me. Janice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The one that I have for the Penn Yan newspaper lists her sister as Mrs. Lewis (Grace) Cadwell. Maybe they made a mistake. I had a very stupid moment. If I had thought to look at Nettie's obituary, then I would have known her married name. I don't remember hearing about the Fulton site. I will have to use it a little more. I have just started putting in some Northrup information that I have into my family tree program. Normally I just do the branches of my father's Conley family. Vernum Northrup (my great great grandfather) had 21 children with his two wives. My great grandfather George E. Northrup was one of the children from Vernum's first wife, Laura Warriner. I found it strange that George's wife Sarah Elizabeth Hill's mother was Marilla Northrup Hill whose granddaughter Inez A. (don't know what it stands for) went on to marry a Northrup. But on the other hand we have a strange family. While looking in the microfilm last week at the library I found out that in 1988 we had five Conley deaths. Two Conley aunts, a aunt by marriage, an uncle, and a cousin. Four of them died on the 28th of the month and my uncle was the only one to die on a different day (the 4th). I just started doing more on the Northrup side since my niece started a facebook page for the Friends and Family of Roscoe an! d Inez Northrup Conley. I figured that I really should include grandma's side in too. So now I will try the Fulton site to look for some of the things I can't find other ways. Thanks again. Is this Inez Northrup Conley? Would their mother have been Joanne Haight? Would Joanne have been 47 or so when Grace was born ??
