Steve CIRBUS had the lead role of Tevye in Pioneer High School's production of the musical "Fiddler on the Roof." Deaths: Cyril "Sid" KNIGHT, 82, former Arcade town supervisor and businessman; Joan LENNOX, 81, of Yorkshire; Bernice STEVENS MAHER, 92, of Bliss; Glenn WOODRUFF, 70, formerly of Arcade. 25 Years Ago - May 3, 1978 The Pioneer Faculty Association presented its first play, "The Man Who Came to Dinner." Brian WOOD had the title role, and Jane STEVENS directed the play, which raised money for the PFA scholarship program. Buffalo television personalities made appearances at local middle schools. Clip SMITH of Channel 7 spoke at Holland, and Barry LILLIS of Channel 2 spoke at Pioneer. David NEWTON of Bolivar was named manager of the Yorkshire office of First Trust Union Bank. Deaths: Kenneth EIDENIER, 63, of Arcade; Helen HACKETT PIRDY, formerly of Bliss; Francis SIMONS of Strykersville; Burt COUNTRYMAN of Delevan. 35 Years Ago - May 2, 1968 A barn in Chaffee owned by William MANION was destroyed by fire. David CONROY of Java Center was selected to attend American Legion Boys' State. Deaths: Gary HERMAN, 15, of Machias; John SCHANG, 91, of Yorkshire; Ralph STEBBINS, 80, of Elton; Geraldine PLUGH, 46, of Yorkshire; John L. JONES, 87, formerly of Delevan and Arcade; Mildred HINZ, 67, of Chaffee; Mabelle PUGH, 84, formerly of Arcade; Clifford VEDDER, 70, of Yorkshire. 50 Years Ago - April 30, 1953 The Iroquois Gas Corporation opened its new offices and salesrooms on Main Street in Arcade in a building owned by Lee DRENNAN (now the Arcade Penny Saver office). Iroquois Gas had also recently completed a warehouse and distribution building on Haskell Avenue. Ralph DRAPER was elected commander of the American Legion post in Holland. A barn owned by Howard WALLACE on Liberty Street in Arcade (now the site of Clearview Drive) was destroyed by fire. Onalee TAYLOR was elected president of the firemen's auxiliary in Arcade.
