Jennifer KINNEY was named Miss Happiness, and Jennifer PIERROT was voted Miss Congeniality. A barn of the Gary and Martha BRAY farm near Arcade was destroyed by fire. Deaths: Lawrence BROWN, 71, of Arcade; Pauline Henry LEONARD, 75, formerly of Farmersville Station. 25 Years Ago - May 18, 1978 Ann SZUBA was crowned queen of the Holland Tulip Festival. Runners-up were Wendy ZIELEN, Christa ROTHFUSS and Sandra KRAMER. Mrs. Jay ADDISON was elected president of the firemen's auxiliary in Delevan. Gary MODZELEWSKI was valedictorian and Kevin JEFFERS was salutatorian of the senior class at Pioneer Central School. The Arcade Council of Churches honored the Rev. John SHORTLE of the Delevan and Yorkshire United Methodist churches and the Rev. John ELLIS of the Arcade United church of Christ, prior to their departure from the area. The council elected Lucille DRAKE president. The B-B gun shooting team sponsored by the Pioneer Jaycees won the state tournament, and Laurie HOPKINS won the overall shooter trophy. Jon COLOROSS was the team's coach. The house on Main Street in Machias that had once served as a funeral home was being demolished. Deaths; Lena FUGLE HOGAN, 89, of Java Village; John BAKIERZYNSKI Jr., 50, of Bliss; Gene LAVERNE, 63, formerly of Arcade. 35 Years Ago - May 16, 1968 The 150th anniversary of the Town of Holland was being observed as part of the annual Tulip Festival. The Arcade PTA honored Alice MASON, who was retiring after 32 years as an elementary teacher, and Marjorie RYAN, who was resigning after 21 years as an English teacher. Harrison LINDSLEY was elected commander of the American Legion post in Holland, and Mrs. William HOUCK was elected president of the auxiliary. Elected president of local firemen's auxiliaries were Barbara LESTER in Arcade and Mrs. Fred WAGNER in Delevan. Deaths: Susie CAMP, 91, of Java Village; Leonard FULLER, 73, formerly of Arcade. 50 Years Ago - May 14, 1953 Dorothy STEVENS of Yorkshire was valedictorian and Rita SCHUMACHER of Delevan was salutatorian of the Class of 1953 at Delevan-Machias Central School. The Arcade merchants voted to close at 5:30 instead of 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The merchants decided to poll their customers about the idea of staying open of Friday rather than Saturday evenings. Herbert LOOMIS sold the Arcade Bottling Works to George and Robert WHITE. Deaths: Mabel JACKSON BRIGGS, 50, of Arcade; Elizabeth HOPKINS GOODEMOTE, 80, of Chaffee; The Rev.
