Deaths: Sylvester GEORGE, 99, of Strykersville; Maria TIBURZI HERRMANN, 30, of Strykersville; Patricia PIEPER BESSEY, 37, of Holland. 25 Years Ago - July 19, 1978 Albert KOERNER was re-elected president of the Holland school board. Harry and Elnora ELLIS of Sardinia observed their golden anniversary. Arthur and Bess CARLSON of Arcade observed their 60th anniversary. John M. GALVIN of Java, who became active in local civic affairs after his retirement, died. Deaths: Henry SCHAEFER, 43, of Machias; Norman FRANZ of Yorkshire. 35 Years Ago - July 18, 1968 Clare BINGHAM was installed as grand knight of the Knights of Columbus in Yorkshire. Deaths: Ruby ALLEN BERGMANN, 74, of Chaffee; Gerald KNIGHT, 83, of Delevan; Lloyd ARNOLD, 61, of Arcade; Viola MASON WEBSTER, 92, of Curriers; Catherine KING REDDEN of Arcade. 50 Years Ago - July 16, 1953 The Borden plant in Arcade shipped out 26,000 cases of Starlac powdered milk product. The shipment reportedly was bound for East Germany, one of the first U. S. shipments there since the start of the Cold War. Everett CRAWFORD was elected commander of the American Legion post in Bliss. Arcade Central voters elected Donald BELDEN and Maurice PHELPS to the school board. Leah HURLBURT of Freedom and George KITTLESON of Yorkshire were married in a ceremony performed by the groom's grandfather, the Reverend Charles OLIVER.
