Raymond HABERER of Arcade was elected president of thse Pioneer school board. Deaths: Thomas PERRINGTON, 42, of Bliss; Esther JOHN MARTIN, 91, of Delevan; Darrell BROWN, 42, of Machias; Ronald NELLIGAN, 50, of Freedom; Paul CONRAD SR., 69, formerly of Strykersville. 25 Years Ago - July 26, 1978 Kevin KIRSCH won the senior division and Tammie MERLAU won the junior division in the annual Soap Box Derby sponsored by the Java-Strykersville Kiwanis Club. Deaths: Florence STANTON KNIGHT BARBER, 85, formerly of Machias; Sardinia native Mary WALKER MASON WILDRICK, 94; Machias native Wayne HOOPER, 76. 35 Years Ago - July 25, 1968 Jack MARSH of Yorkshire was elected president of the Pioneer school board. Lance Cpl. Richard PIXLEY, 18, of Franklinville, was killed in action at Da Nang, Vietnam. The Davis-Hoffman clothing store in Arcade was holding a quitting business sale. Ralph SMITH of Holland was elected president of the Cattaraugus County Coon Hunters Club. Deaths: Elberta HOPKINS of Sardinia; Henry RAKOSKA, 80, of Chaffee; William RAUENHORST, 72, of Delevan; Robert SCHREIBER, 66, Holland highway superintendent. More deaths: Kenneth JONES, 65, formerly of Delevan; Nellie MACKEN FLYNN, 96, of Bliss; Florence BOLENDER WAGNER, 83, of Arcade; Ida COLVIN PHILLIPS, 84, of Machias; Frances BLAKE ARNTS, 69, formerly of Freedom. 50 Years Ago - July 23, 1953 Re-elected president of their local school boars were Archibald LAIDLAW at Holland and Jack MARSH at Delevan-Machias.
