Hi, It was great to hear from so many of you. I just copy what the Arcade Herald prints in their weekly Remember When column. The author of the column goes through the old newspapers and extracts the information. He asked that his name not be published on the List. Since so many of us are interested in older information, we could write to the Arcade Herald, 223 Main Street, Arcade, NY 14009, tell them how much we enjoy the Remember When column and request that they include information from 75 and 100 years ago. Maybe if we also mentioned that if they included that information, we would subscribed to the newspaper, they might decide to include it. Pete had purchased the business in 1939. Mary HAMM WERTZ of Wind Song Studio and Dale FRYER of Tri-County Times were named to co-chair the annual Arcade Winterfest. The Al NOVAK home at Lime Lake was damaged by fire. 35 Years Ago - January 4, 1968 Fire destroyed a barn on the Charles KING farm at Yorkshire. Postal rates for first-class mail were increased to six cents. Deaths: Olive ROBLEE of Farmersville; Ethel WEBSTER, 70, of Curriers. 50 Years Ago - January 1, 1953 New York State had set aside funds with which to provide more state park land in Erie county. A special committee of the county Board of Supervisors had picked three possible sites, including 1,600 acres in the Protection area. The other two sites were at Zoar Valley and along the lakeshore at Angola. Hazel HOPKINS of Delevan was named executive secretary of the Wyoming County Chapter of the American Red Cross. A lighting district was established and street lights were installed in the hamlet of Chaffee.
