Councilwoman Madonna BARBER was appointed town supervisor by the Eagle Town Board, following the November death of Supervisor Rita GEORGE. Dennis BECKER was elected president of the Lime Lake Sportsman Club. Deaths: Ethel MERCER TULLAR GOODEMOTE, 92, of Arcade; Helen BLOCK THOMAS, 73, of Holland; Steve BERNARD, Sr., 70, of Arcade; Clifford DORNAN, 89, of Bliss; Calvin McNELL, 70, of Machias; Frances DAVIS MEYERRING, 75, formerly of Arcade; Cariton FOIT, 86, formerly of Arcade; Richard CARTWRIGHT, 72, formerly of Arcade. 25 Years Ago - January 18, 1978 Florence BOWERS of Delevan retired as cafeteria manager for Pioneer Central Schools. Dorothy COLLER was installed as matron of the Eastern Star chapter in Machias. 35 Years Ago - January 11, 1968 The Arcade Chamber of Commerce named William O. BRUYERE as its Citizen of the Year. Mr. BRUYERE had recently been named director of manufacturing for Motorola's Automotive Products Division. Kenyon GRETZLER succeeded him as manager of Motorola's Arcade plant. Robert THOMAS succeeded Carl W. GERTIS as president of the Chamber of Commerce. A testimonial dinner was planned to honor Leland JOYCE upon his retirement, after 10 years as Holland town supervisor. Mr. Floyd FOX was elected president of the Delevan Travelers Clubs. New matrons at local Eastern Star chapters were Sara DEVLING at Java Village and Mrs. Walter LIS at Machias. John JEDRZEJEK was re-elected captain of the Eagle Hose Company's rescue squad. 50 Years Ago - January 15, 1953 D. C. BENTLEY was re-elected president of the Citizens Bank of Arcade. The following were installed by local lodges: Robert WATERS, master of the Masonic ledge in Arcade; Dorothy WATERS, matron of the Eastern Star chapter in Arcade; and Carol LANDPHAIR, matron of the Eastern Star chapter in Java Village.
