    3. The following obit appeared in the January 11, 2003 Buffalo News: WYOMING - John G. Wilson Sr., a longtime Wyoming County historian and 50-year member of the Wyoming Village Board, died Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) in Wyoming County Community Hospital after a long illness. He was 92. A lifelong resident of Wyoming, he graduated from Wyoming High School and attended what was then Geneseo Normal School. He was involved in farming for 55 years until his retirement in 1975, when he was appointed Wyoming County historian, a position he held until 1995. He then served as deputy historian until last summer. He also served as editor of the magazine Historical Wyoming and was a member of the Middlebury Historical Society and the Silver Lake Pioneer Association. He was also a longtime Boy Scout volunteer and a member of the Wyoming Free Library Board. His first wife, the former Mary Denton, died in 1979. His second wife, the former Dorotha Eastman, died in 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Joanne D. Wietgrefe of Ithaca and Jean W. Mercer of Westminster, S.C.; a son, John G. Jr. of Sterling, Va.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be scheduled in spring in Wyoming Baptist Church.
