George, 94, died Oct. 10, 2003 (funeral services were Oct. 24, 2003) Please note: The Arcade Herald is online at www.arcadeherald.com They keep the obituaries for the last two weeks on the site. Since it takes me about a week to get the AH in the mail and sometimes more than a week before I post the obituaries and the Remember When... column, you might want to do a weekly check of the site for the obituaries. William ERICK of Yorkshire was honored by the Arcade Area Chamber of Commerce as its person of the Year. Juanita HUBER directed the Holland Middle School's production of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." Don KRYSZAK had the title role. Sherrel and Merilee WOOLLEY HOLMES of Strykersville observed their golden anniversary. Deaths: Irving HURLBURT, 88 of Freedom; Edward KING, 75, of Farmersville Station; Jay BAXTRESSER, 89, of Holland; Margaret ROBINSON PHILLIPS, 80, of Delevan. More deaths: Esther HELMRICH HENZLER, 96, of Holland; Margaret MORAN, 99, formerly of Arcade; Nelson "Red" KEANMASTER, 91, formerly of Java Village; Marie MANNO SMUTZER, 76, formerly of Arcade. 25 Years Ago - November 9, 1978 Herman MOESSINGER of Elma was named postmaster of Arcade. Pioneer and Depew tied for a second-place finish in Division V football. Pioneer scored on a Dave GREEN touchdown, plus a conversion and a 40-yard field goal by Kevin KERN. Reuhl DABOLT had a crucial fumble recovery. Russell, Jack and Doris MORRISON sold Morrison Pontiac-Buick Inc in Yorkshire to Tom KLEPFER. Tim O'CONNELL portrayed the domineering father in "Cheaper by the Dozen," the senior play at Pioneer High School. The play was directed by Sandy STACHOWIAK. Deaths: Renee WILCOX, 16, of Yorkshire; Lydia MONTGOMERY, 88, of Delevan; Gladys LANG, 61, of Bliss; Evangeline (Fannie) SCHWARTZ of Sardinia; Troy RICHARDS, 11, of Sardinia. 35 Years Ago - November 7, 1968 The final senior class productions at two local high schools were presented, prior to the opening of the new Pioneer Junior-Senior High School in Yorkshire. Albert BIGELOW and Michael JORDAN directed the senior musical, "Sky High," at Arcade High School. Leads parts were held by Mary MILLER, Brian LUSCHER, Linda FRIEND, Donald FIELD and Sue WILSON. The senior play at Delevan-Machias, "Get Witch Quick," was directed by Ardarath GORSKY and Philip MARCELLO. Holly HEINEMAN, Julie WOODARD, Jeannine VACANTI, and Dennis HUBER had the lead parts. Thomas and Blanche MORGAN HESS of Bliss observed their golden anniversary. Linda FRIEND and Deborah BATES, vocal students at Arcade, were selected for the All-State Chorus. Deaths: Amos MEACHAM, 84, of Farmersville Center; Charles WHITMER of Chaffee; Gladys ROUNDS WRIGHT, 72, of Farmersville; Donald KNIGHT, 60, of Chaffee. 50 Years Ago - November 5, 1953 Winning candidates for town supervisor included Dr. Lynn HAM in Arcade; Merton PERRY in Eagle; Harold HAWS in Holland; Arthur CARLSEN in Sardinia; and Frank HANLEY in Java. Steve SMITH was elected president of the Delevan-Machias Kiwanis Club. Verne GOODEMOTE was elected president and Edward ANDERA was elected chief of the Memorial Volunteer Fire Company of Chaffee-Sardinia. The Arcade Central School band, directed by Anthony GORRUSO, gave a concert commemoration its founding by Mr. GORRUSO 20 years earlier. The Reverend Donald WALLACE became pastor of the First Baptist Church of Holland.
