The Gordon RHOADES family on Deacon Drive took first place in the Family category of the snow sculpture contest with their entry, "Love is a Jar Full of Honey." The area's oldest resident, Ida KIHM RICHARDSON of Machias, died at age 110. Other deaths: Carl SCHWAB, 68, of Strykersville; Donald HALE, 65, of Sulley COOK, 76, formerly of Bliss. 25 Years Ago - February 22, 1978 Robert BENTLEY was named Citizen of the year by the Arcade Area Chamber of Commerce. Among the speakers at the presentation was state Senate Majority Leader Warren ANDERSON. The Chamber elected William SCOTT president. Debbie MILLER was crowned queen of the Arcade Winterfest. Jennie HEBDON and Barb HECKATHORN were the runners-up. The KEMP and EDWARDS families won the prize for the best snow sculpture with their fireplace. Bill and May MELOCHE of Arcade won the Agent of the Year award for Montgomery Ward's Albany territory. Peter KITTLESTON was elected chief and Carl SCHADE was elected president of the Crystal Hose Company in Yorkshire. Greg ROGERS, a senior at Pioneer, scored a record 21 points in one quarter and broke Paul STEVENS' single-game record, when he scored 43 points in a basketball game against Cheektowaga. Mildred HACKER was elected president of the Delevan Travelers Club. The Holland Fire Department elected Ralph LOWE president and Max BARRON chief. Deaths: J. Earl BLAKELEY, 83 of Arcade; Catherine HOFFMAN LOUNSBURY, 55, of Machias; Alice JONES, 85, formerly of Machias. 35 Years Ago - February 22, 1968 The O'Dell Medical Center in Arcade had completed arrangements to provide the services of a physical therapist, a psychiatrist and a social worker. The state awarded an $18.7 million contract to construct 7.15 miles of the Aurora Expressway (Route 400) between Maple Street, north of East Aurora, and South Wales.
