Ralph LOWE was named chairman of the anniversary committee. Elected matron of local Eastern Star chapters were Jacqueline HOWLETT at Machias and Elizabeth MAYNARD at Java Village. Deaths: Ray WRAZEN, 57, of Holland; Joseph WINKLER Sr., 90, of Sardinia; Margaret GLASER STEMPER, 97, of Strykersville. 25 Years Ago - January 25, 1978 Mrs. Philip JOHNS was elected president of the board of King Memorial Library in Machias. The William Weller Hose Company in Machias elected Merle CHAPMAN chief and David WRIGHT president. Margaret JONES was installed as matron of the Eastern Star chapter in Java Village. Aided by Ron BRAYMILLER's decision at heavyweight, the Pioneer wrestling team defeated Iroquois, 22-21, to extend its streak to 68 consecutive dual meets. Deaths: Mary PLUBEL, 89, of Delevan; Frank DEGENFELDER, 88, of Arcade; Chester OLSZAK of Delevan; Dorothy FRANCIS of Arcade; Lottie RANDALL, 85, formerly of Delevan. 35 Years Ago - January 18, 1968 Ken HUGHES took over management of the Central Service Station at the corner of Main and Liberty streets in Arcade. Philip JOHNSTON succeeded Harold CRABB as president of the Arcade Kiwanis Club. Deaths: DeVere HASKELL, 74, formerly of Arcade; Florence LINGENFELTER BECKWITH, 100, of Machias. 50 Years Ago - January 22, 1953 The Reverend Clifford CHAMBERLAIN left the Elton Baptist Church to accept a pastorate in West Virginia. The Holland Methodist Church voted to construct a two-story addition to the rear of the church. Alton TIFFANY was installed as master of the Java Village Masonic lodge. Deaths: Velma SNYDER FRANKLIN, 78, of Machias; Arnold WILLIAMS, 64, formerly of Farmersville; Fred RELYEA, 75, of Delevan; Mary Ann LANG, formerly of Holland; Willliam GUENTHER, 84, formerly of Arcade; Isabelle DEMMING RIDER, 76, formerly of Sardinia; Daniel LANG, 20, of Yorkshire. *To receive a copy of the original article or obituary, send a written request listing the individual article and the exact date of the issue to Arcade Historical Society, P.
