Fans of the Buffalo Bills were hoping the third time would be the charm, as the Bills prepared to face the Dallas Cowboys in super Bowl XXVII. Laura MASON had the lead role of Sylvia Barrett in "Up the Down Staircase," the senior play at Pioneer High School. Deaths: Raymond WANGELIN Jr., 21, of Olean; George NELLIGAN, 52, of Yorkshire; Emma SMITH, 91, of Delevan; Mamie "Mickey" SILVERNAIL KEEN, 71, of Bliss; Meldon JONES Jr., 69, of Arcade; Edna EVANS McELHENEY, 86, of Delevan. 25 Years Ago - February 1, 1978 Edward BARBER of Arcade was named Wyoming County chairman of the American Heart Association. The merchants of Delevan and Yorkshire held their first meeting and elected Gayle WOLFER as their chair. Pioneer's 68 match winning streak in wrestling came to an end with a 36-16 loss to Depew. Deaths: Alice JAMES, 89, formerly of Arcade; Elizabeth WAKEFIELD, 87, formerly of Sardinia. 35 Years Ago - February 1, 1968 Harold CRABB of Arcade was honored for his many years of athletic accomplishments, particularly in basketball and baseball. Fire destroyed a barn on the William HOFFMAN farm near Machias. Michael RONAN was elected president of the Arcade Conservation Society. Clinton SALMON was elected president of the Kiwanis Club of Chaffee-Sardinia. Deaths: Cpl. Michael SONGER, 22, of Strykersville; Lydia TROESCH PETER, 67, of Delevan; Simeon ROSE, 83, of Farmersville Center. 50 Years Ago - January 29, 1953 Dr. John ANDERSON was re-elected president of the Bank of Delevan. Howard WALLACE was elected president of the Arcade Free Library board.
