GEORGE Memorial Recreation Center in honor of the late Town of Eagle supervisor. The Reverend Glenn KOSIOREK became pastor of the Sandusky Baptist Church. Cariton and Cora DUNCAN TALBOT of Arcade observed their 60th anniversary. Deaths: Helen "Sue" ROBINSON DECKER, 71, of Delevan; Irene SCHILTZ REDDING, 79, of Holland; Norma WHITLAM LAMBERT, 73, of Delevan; John SURMAN, 96, of Delevan; Michael DeLUCIA, 67, formerly of Arcade. 25 Years Ago - September 28, 1978 The Reverend Carlyle A. SMITH succeeded Dr. Harold KINGDON as pastor of the Java Village Congregational Church. Installed as master of local Granges were Herbert HERMAN at Delevan and Kenneth DURKEE at Freedom. Fred and Emma WEBSTER RITCHEY of Delevan observed their golden anniversary. John GILE of Delevan died at age 69. 35 Years Ago - September 26, 1968 Eight hundred people attended a testimonial dinner in honor of Harold O. BRUMSTED, who had recently retired after many years as supervision principal at Holland Central School. Arthur HURLBURT was elected master of the Freedom Grange. The Holland United Methodist Church observed the 100th anniversary of its founding. Deaths: Phyllis Joanne PEFFER DERSAM of Bliss; Clyde SAXTON, 77, of Arcade. 50 Years Ago - September 24, 1953 The Arcade merchants decided by a unanimous vote to remain open on Friday evenings and to close on Saturday evenings. As the 40-hour, five-day work week became more common, many communities had switched their evening hours from Saturday to Friday, since Friday had become the normal payday for many employers. Mrs. Emerson GROVES was elected noble grand of the Rebekah lodge in Delevan. Donald JAQUISH was elected master of the Delevan Grange. Floyd and Jessie BUTTON ROWLAND of Machias observed their golden anniversary. Avelyn WALLACE was elected master of Curriers Grange. Deaths: Albert WANAMAKER, formerly of Holland; Ethel MYERS, 69, of Sardinia; Charles COBRY, 85, of East Arcade; Pvt.
