    3. Progressive Batavian Batavia, NY December 26-1879 # 3 Pavilion. - Willie Graves is off for a holiday visit in Tioga County. Enoch Heath and family will spend the holidays in Franklinville. An elevator has just been put in the new ware-house. It was made by L.S. Graves, Rochester. Rans Hutchinson has purchased a set of Forsyth's hay scales which he has placed at the ware-house. "Baby" street is appropriately named. Wm. Lortz now comes to the front with a fine specimen of baby. Willis Culver left town last Tuesday for Baltimore, Md., where he will engage in the nursery business. Success attend, you, m'boy. Mr. James Lyons, formerly of Midland railroad of Canada, has been installed telegraph operator at the depot, vice Maggie Weber. Steps are being taken to organize an A.O.U.W. lodge in this place. Everything is about ready for a start. Next week we will give further particulars. The quarterly meeting of the official board of the M.E. Church will be held at Covington on Saturday. On Wednesday next the annual meeting for the election of trustees will be held at the church in this village. The M.E. Church is now permanently supplied with a pastor in the person of Rev. S.C. Farnham. Mr. F. came here direct from New Hampshire. He is, as has been intimated, a man of ability and energy, and all concerned are highly gratified. On Wednesday evening of next week Miss Julia Young of Morganville will give a reading in the Presbyterian Church building under the auspices of the Pavilion Library Society. Miss Young is spoken of very highly by those who have had the pleasure of hearing her. The breach of promise suit, spoken of two weeks ago, was witnessed by a large and amused audience. Lillie Nobles personated her character (Kate Snarling, complainant.) to a dot. Mr. Fickle, the defendant, personated by Humphrey Maddock, was a most accommodating witness. The affair wound up with a conciliation and bridle[sic] scene. It hath been murmured about that one of our sprightliest and prettiest young ladies has taken unto herself another, not a better half. It is understood that the contracting parties are Miss _____ [sic] and Mr. ____[sic]. The whole affair being shrouded in secrecy and mystery we won't venture any positive assertion. If so, Frank, you're a lucky dog any way. A few weeks since a few active Christians, seeing the need of a work in this village, banded themselves together for the purpose of holding cottage prayer meetings. Thus far they have been very much encouraged in the work and will continue to hold them. The next meeting will be held at the residence of Mr. Wm. Gilmore. Present indications point to a successful revival in Pavilion ere long. Who says Pavilion has no manufacturing interests? Having just completed a dozen swell body cutters, part of which are already sold, Mr. Buckingham is now getting out material for as many lumber wagons for the spring trade. DeWitt Bond has shipped during the past fall and winter seven car loads of turned handles for farming tools, each car holding 10,000 to 12,000 handles. In addition to all this we have two patent medicine manufacturies in the place. Go in!
