Forgot to mention if you're a local, you may want to check deeds in the County Clerk's Office. For example for my town of Alabama (Genesee County) I found some very interesting things on our St. Patricks Church. (which I'll eventually get posted to my websites new home.) In 1877, Rev. Stephen V. Ryan, Bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo, purchased lots in the towns of Genesee County. The deed at Liber 151 page 38 is the lot in the town of Alabama for St. Patrick's. Martin W. Donnell quitclaimed the land for $1.00. On January 4, 1898 Bishop James E. Quigley of Buffalo sold the plots Ryan purchased in the towns of Alabama, Byron, and Pavilion for $1.00 to The Diocese of Buffalo. There are several deeds such as this in the clerk's office in Genesee showing the Catholic Church's desire to expand its faith. So you may find the same thing in Wyoming County. Just a thought of another place to look. -- Cindy Amrhein Town of Alabama Historian in Genesee Co., NY Experience the Town of Alabama in Genesee County, NY. http://www.rootsweb.com/nycalaba/ APHNYS (Association of Public Historians of New York State) http://www.tier.net/~aphnys __________________________________________________________________ Try AOL and get 1045 hours FREE for 45 days! http://free.aol.com/tryaolfree/index.adp?375380 Get AOL Instant Messenger 5.1 for FREE!
