Barbara "Bobbie" MAHER of Bliss, who had recently retired as a Wyoming County public health nurse, was named as a New York State Nurse of Distinction. Pioneer's Ryan McGUIRE finished third in the state wrestling tournament at 98 pounds. Deaths: Verno "Mooney" NOURSE, 78, of Delevan; Elizabeth BROZI JOHNSON, 68, of Arcade; Mary CROWLEY GEORGE, 75, of North Java; Beatrice HAMILTON SHANAHAN, 69, of Holland; Elizabeth BROWN HOUGHTON, 79, of Delevan; Mildred HARRIS BARBER, 87, formerly of Java Center. 25 Years Ago - March 15, 1979 Betty and Dan BERWANGER sold Ann's Tavern and Ellen's Apartments in Arcade. Pioneer alumnus Mike ARNOLD of Delevan closed out his wrestling career at Ohio's Ashland College with his third selection as an NCAA Division III All-American. Linda JOHNS was elected president of King Memorial Library in Machias. Deaths: Ella Mae HICKS DRAKE, 82, of Arcade; Adellma HOWE MORGAN, 79, of Freedom. 35 Years Ago - March 13, 1969 Mrs. Richard RUGG was installed as president of the Holland Garden Club. Horace KENYON of Chaffee died at age 92. 50 Years Ago - March 11, 1954 Harold J. HARRISON, who had recently retired as Wyoming County district school superintendent, died at age 61. Harrison had served for nine years as principal of the school at Bliss. The Arcade VFW post sponsored a two-night minstrel show. Russell PETERS served as interlocutor, and Fern MOSTERT was the director. New York Telephone was building the second addition to its Holland office since it was constructed in 1938.
