Line dancing had become a craze at several local establishments. Dale EASTERLY was teaching line dancing classes at the Holland Willows. Deaths: Edwin STEFFENHAGEN, 66, of Machias; Leonard CLINCH, 90, of Arcade; Gary Lee HOLLAND, 42, of Yorkshire; Mary HICKEY BROWN, 88, of Arcade; Charlotte MEACHAM POTTER, 80, of Machias; Clara DENEA BLASDELL, 74, of Arcade. 25 Years Ago - February 8, 1979 The ALMETER family on Liberty Street won the award for the best overall snow sculpture in Arcade's Winter Wonderfest. Edward BARBER of Arcade was named campaign chairman for the American Heart Association's fund drive in Wyoming County. Deaths: Richard GRAHAM, 55, of Delevan; Glenn BARBER, 66, of Java; John MAZIERSKI, 67, of Arcade; Jay STRONG, 83, of Holland; Elmer DOWNING, 80, of Machias; Kathryn ELLIS FOLLETT, 90, a native of Sardinia. 35 Years Ago - February 6, 1969 Seymour ROSIER succeeded Robert THOMAS as president of the Arcade Area Chamber of Commerce. The Pioneer school board appointed Joseph YAGER of Delevan as head custodian of the new junior-senior high school in Yorkshire. Sandie HARRISON opened the Town & Country Beauty Shop in Arcade. Luke SHARON was elected president of the Arcade Free Library board. Mildred CHARLES of Arcade died at age 77. 50 Years Ago - February 4, 1954 Radio equipment was installed on both of the Arcade Fire Department's trucks, enabling communication between trucks. Paul DORRIS, the Herald's editor and publisher, participated in a panel discussion on classified advertising at the annual New York Press Association convention. Mr. and Mrs. Walter LAKS of Holland observed their golden anniversary.
