Deaths: Floyd SILLAWAY, Strykersville, 87. 25 Years Ago - April 26, 1979 Scott KIPPHUT of Delevan, a member of Boy Scout Troop 627, became an Eagle Scout. Deaths: Sadie ORCUTT STOLL, 80, of Machias; Donald LUSK, 69, Arcade; Rose BURNS, 93, of Arcade. 35 Years Ago - April 24, 1969 Tom POPE, basketball coach at Arcade, planned to resign to become the head basketball coach at Geneseo State College. Delevan native Chris DEDRICK, a member of the family's Free Design singing group, enlisted in the Air Force to become chief arranger for the Airmen of Note, the Air Force's official dance band. His uncle, Lyle "Rusty" DEDRICK, who had played trumpet for the Air Force, planned to take over as musical director of the Free Design. Clifford WHITBECK was promoted to chief of police by the Arcade Village Board. Clint SALMON was re-elected commander of the VFW post in Arcade. The band at Arcade High School presented its final concert. Joining conductor Albert BIGELOW was Anthony GORRUSO of Amherst, a former longtime band director at Arcade. Deaths: William WELLS, 74 of Arcade; Leland McELHENY, 69, of Delevan; Ida ZINK KLUMP, 90, of Yorkshire. 50 Years Ago - April 22, 1954 A group of 21 Boy Scouts from Delevan and Machias traveled down the Allegheny Rive from Olean to Pittsburgh. They were accompanied by Scoutmasters Jack BLACKHALL and Fred SCHWAB and Kiwanis representative Sig ALTMANN. Dale KILE was installed as commander of the VFW post in Arcade, and Lucille PIEDMONT was installed as president of the auxiliary. Thomas and Myrtie ECKERT WILLIAMS of Sandusky celebrated their golden anniversary. Deaths: Frank QUINN of Yorkshire; Sgt. Frank COOK, Holland; George FERGUSON, 55, of Bliss.
