Deaths: Carl GRAVES, 70, Java; Clarence ASH Jr., 64, Strykersville; Catherine CRAGG DANKS, 80, Chaffee; Mable NORRIS REED, 83, Arcade; Anne WELLS CRANE, 48, Arcade. 25 Years Ago - May 10, 1979 Barbara HOPKINS, formerly of Arcade, completed flight attendant's training with American Airlines. Linda RULE was installed as president of the fire department auxiliary in Arcade. Publisher Bill GRAF assumed the editor's duties at the Tri-County Times. Charles "Whitey" KOHLER of Delevan died at age 68. 35 Years Ago - May 8, 1969 Clinton SALMON of Arcade VFW post was elected commander of the VFW's Western County Council. The American Legion post in Machias, commanded by Victor BURLINGAME, burned the mortgage on its building on Route 16. The building was constructed for the local Grand Army of the Republic post in the late 1800s and was purchased by the Legion in 1946. Jerald PARKER and Mary Jo ASQUITH, both of Machias, were chosen to attend American Legion Boys State and Girls State. Deaths: Harold HOPKINS, 67, of Arcade; Lucy UPSON, 88, of Eagle; Kenneth HIGGINS, Delevan. 50 Years Ago - May 6, 1954 James SPROUL of Delevan was valedictorian and Jerald KUHN of Machias was salutatorian of the senior class at Delevan-Machias. Roger GORHAM was elected president of the Arcade Lions Club. The Chaffee-Sardinia Fire Company formed a first aid squad with Burton McNAMARA and Verne GOODEMOTE as its officers. Ferdell BEARDSLEY of Arcade died at age 78.
