Matthew ROLL, 11, of Arcade, was named "1994-95 Arcade Satellite Child" for the Variety Club of Buffalo's annual telethon. Fire destroyed they Paula EDWARDS home near Yorkshire. Congressman Jack QUINN of Hamburg held a community meeting in Sardinia and discussed residents' concerns about the lack of accessibility at the post office in Chaffee. Lanson RELYEA of Arcade, a senior at Pioneer, placed first in New York State in the annual Voice of Democracy competition, sponsored by the national Veterans of Foreign Wars and its auxiliary. Co-chairs Sue DILDINE and Ron RING announced that "A Little Bit Country" would be the theme of the upcoming Winterfest in Arcade. Deaths: Alice MCCORMICK McNULTY, 82, of Java Center; Myrtle MUIR, 83, of Machias; Floyd COOK, 69, of Freedom; Iola THOMAS ZACK, 84, of Arcade. 25 Years Ago - January 18, 1979 The Delevan-Yorkshire Public Library moved into its new building on School Street in Delevan. The William Weller Hose Company in Machias elected Francis LOUNSBURY president and Merle CHAPMAN chief. Deaths: Lena HOPKINS ROBLEE, 88, of Machias; Robert DORSHIDE, 72, of Strykersville; Cecelia NAUGHTON McCORMICK, 89, of Java. 35 Years Ago - January 16, 1969 The B-Kwik Food Market opened in the Delevan Plaza. Raymond MILBRAND was the owner. Raymond CENNI, a math teacher at Arcade, was appointed as an administrator at the new Pioneer Junior-Senior High School, and Milford DRAKE of Arcade was hired as an industrial arts teacher. Installed as president of local Kiwanis clubs were Donald SCHNEIDER at Chaffee-Sardinia and Verlis WILEY at Arcade. Duane EASTLAND was installed as master of the Masonic lodge and Mrs. William LAMBERT was installed as matron of the Eastern Star chapter, both at Machias. Deaths: Oscar CLINTON, 74, of Delevan; Harry WILTSE, 68, of Arcade; Mrs. [Edith PLEACE] James HACKETT, 57, of North Java. 50 Years Ago - January 14, 1954 The Citizens Bank of Arcade increased the size of its board of directors from seven to nine members. The two new directors were Lee J. DRENNAN of Arcade and James R. SHAW of Chaffee. F. Earl WESTOVER of Yorkshire was re-elected chairman of the Cattaraugus County Board of Supervisors. Robert ROBERSON and Eva WILDER were named king and queen of basketball at Delevan-Machias Central School. Mrs. Howard HUDSON of Curriers was re-elected chair of the executive committee of the Wyoming county Home Bureau. Mr. and Mrs. Chris GOLDBERG of Holland observed their 60th anniversary. Installed as matrons of local Eastern Star chapter were Margaret GRAVES at Java Village, Katharine HOPKINS at Arcade, and Ruth HOLDEN at Machias. Installed as masters of local Masonic lodges were Millard FRENCH at Machias and Robert BENTLEY at Arcade. Nichols. Other owners were Luman Hakes, and later his son, G.
