SMITH, 31, Farmer, b. NY. Lucinda (WILCOX) SMITH, 28, b. NY. George W. SMITH, 10, b. NY. Sara L. SMITH, 6, b. NY. Martha J. SMITH, 5, b. NY. Francis E. SMITH, 2, b. NY. Fanny Jane SMITH, 1 month, b. NY. The census states Lucinda (WILCOX) SMITH was born in NY. Frances Ellen SMITH's death certificate states that her mother Lucinda WILCOX, was born in Vermont. In the 1860 census, these SMITH's are listed in Hume, Allegany Co. NY: John A. SMITH, 41, Farmer, b. NY Lucinda (WILCOX) SMITH, 38, b. NY George W. SMITH, 20 farm laborer, b. NY Martha SMITH, 14, b. NY Frances E. SMITH, 12 (fem), b. NY The SMITH and WILCOX families may have lived in Pike, Allegany Co. NY - at one time part of Nunda. Frances Ellen SMITH, b. 11 Apr. 1848; m. 26 Mar 1865 Castile, Wyoming Co. NY, Willard Eddy CALKINS, b. 13 Sept. 1835 Hume, Allegany Co. NY. In the 1860 NY census for Hume, Willard CALKINS' occupation was listed as "Raftsman". According to family tradition, John A. SMITH ran a river boat, either on the Hudson River, or the Erie Canal.
