I visited the Wyoming County, New York, area on Veterans Day and just returned from my trip with some information I wanted to share. Some time ago someone posted a question about the PERSONS - GREEN family link. I have gathered information from the graves found in Wyoming County, New York, that should help with your search. The following information comes from a headstones found in the Maple Lawn Cemetery just south of the city of Bennington, Wyoming County, New York. The stone is a 10 to 12 foot tall spire like headstone made from a yellow-white stone. The grave and inscriptions are in very good shape. I took photos so let me know if you are interested in a print. It is my strong belief that the last name inscribed should read PERSONS not PARSONS however I have little documentation available at this time to prove otherwise. The area was settled by Uriah PERSONS and I feel strongly that Chandler is a PERSONS. On the side facing East, Reads: Chandler PARSONS Died January 26, 1888 Aged 87 Years Emily GREEN Wife Of Chandler PARSONS Died October 9, 1881 Aged 81 years On the side facing West, Reads: Linus Son of Chandler and Emily PARSONS Died February 23, 1856 Aged 30 years Also Mathew PARSONS Died Nov 21, 1836 Aged 9 years. Unfortunately my genealogy program is dead and I do not have access to the more than 6000 PERSONS family names that I have documented over the last 25 years. I am working to get the database restored and once I have full access I will be able to address additional questions.
