The towns of Sholdon and Java suffered the heaviest property damage. Members of the Holland Kiwanis Club celebrated the club's 40th anniversary. Charter members Paul LINGENFELTER, Rodger JOYCE, and Al KOERNER were present. Slyde MORAN began his second year as Kiwanis president, and Jim JACKSON was honored as the Kiwanian of the Year. Deaths: Dennis WOLFER, 37, of Freedom; Michael JAUCH, 81, of Machias; Kenneth CASEY, 78, of Sardinia; Carita HANLEY RICLEY, 61, of Machias; Dorothy FULKERSON, 69, formerly of Arcade; Milford BRAY, 69, formerly of Arcade. 25 Years Ago - November 23, 1977 Sgt. Ron MEEK, formerly of Freedom, was named Marine of the Year at the Cherry Point Marine Base in North Carolina. Fires destroyed a barn on the John GERNSTL form near Eagle and the JURGINS cottage at Lime Lake. John PIEDMONT of Holland was named Erie County Legionnaire of the Year. Deaths: Lucile HOGUE SMITH, 84, of Arcade; Blanche PATTERSON NEWLAND, 90, formerly of Arcade. 35 Years Ago - November 23, 1967 Holland's soccer team won the Section VI championship. Phil ROTH, Jim LIDDLE and Jim JOYCE were tri-captains, and Elliott REIDEL was goalie. James TANNER directed "The Family Nobody Wanted," the Holland Central School senior play. Jerome FRONCKOWIAK and Sara SAUNDERS had lead roles. Deaths: Emil OPFERBECK, 69, of Delevan; Lena MEYERS NOURSE, 76, of Delevan. 50 Years Ago - November 20, 1952 The senior class at Bliss High School presented its senior play, "The Groom Said No." Marjorie RYAN and Edward MURPHY directed "Clementine," and senior play at Arcade Central School. Barbara ROGERS had the title role.
