Correct there is a book at the Wyoming County clerks office for marriages HOWEVER it begins circa 1905. The churches, mentioned by Joan, is your best bet that early. I would check the connections at the Wyoming page to see if they list the churches. They do have a page for the historians, so you may be able to direct your church question to the Gainesville historian. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywyomin/ -- Cindy Amrhein Town of Alabama Historian in Genesee Co., NY Experience the Town of Alabama in Genesee County, NY. http://www2.pcom.net/cinjod/historian/ APHNYS (Association of Public Historians of New York State) http://www.tier.net/aphnys __________________________________________________________________ The NEW Netscape 7.0 browser is now available. Hi Ed, I have seen some very old marriages at the Wyoming County Clerk's Office, but I have no idea if they might go back that far, as vital records weren't mandated until the late 1880s. There wouldn't be any licenses back then!! Other than that, my guess would be to check church records for the area....have you checked with the LDS films to see if they might have marriage records that early for the area?? Good luck, Joan

The Progressive Batavian Batavia, Genesee County, New York State February 19-1875 * Attica.-Those people who are in the habit of walking on railroad track, should abandon such walks, unless they are thoroughly posted on the time of trains, and even then, a word of caution would not come amiss. Mr. BEMAN of Attica, had a narrow escape from being run over by Turrel's train Tuesday afternoon. He was walking down the track east of the village, and was busy watching a train going west on the Erie, and did not notice Turrell's train, that was coming in his rear. Harvey whistled down brakes and reversed his engine, and Mr. BEMAN realized his situation just in time to step from the track, and avoid being run over. * submitted by Linda C. I visited the Wyoming County, New York, area on Veterans Day and just returned from my trip with some information I wanted to share. Some time ago someone posted a question about the PERSONS - GREEN family link. I have gathered information from the graves found in Wyoming County, New York, that should help with your search. The following information comes from a headstones found in the Maple Lawn Cemetery just south of the city of Bennington, Wyoming County, New York. The stone is a 10 to 12 foot tall spire like headstone made from a yellow-white stone. The grave and inscriptions are in very good shape. I took photos so let me know if you are interested in a print. It is my strong belief that the last name inscribed should read PERSONS not PARSONS however I have little documentation available at this time to prove otherwise. The area was settled by Uriah PERSONS and I feel strongly that Chandler is a PERSONS. On the side facing East, Reads: Chandler PARSONS Died January 26, 1888 Aged 87 Years Emily GREEN Wife Of Chandler PARSONS Died October 9, 1881 Aged 81 years On the side facing West, Reads: Linus Son of Chandler and Emily PARSONS Died February 23, 1856 Aged 30 years Also Mathew PARSONS Died Nov 21, 1836 Aged 9 years. Unfortunately my genealogy program is dead and I do not have access to the more than 6000 PERSONS family names that I have documented over the last 25 years. I am working to get the database restored and once I have full access I will be able to address additional questions. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like additional information. Mark David Persons 8427 Walmer Street Overland Park, KS. 66212 (913) 383-8139 [email protected] The information contained in this e-mail message is intended only for the personal and confidential use of the recipient(s) named above.
