Hi Elizabeth, Sorry to hear about your challenges. Hang there. I have copies of their 1921 div in Middlesex Co, MA which indicated he was then engaged in the service of Navy at Hampton Roads, VA. Latest is that he is on the 1930 Cen in Silver Springs, Wyoming Co, NY on RR St, 44 yrs, single, boarder, RR laborer, and filed for his SS in 1937 from same add but indicated that he was unemployed [a lot of people were in 1937!] and we know nothing of his whereabouts thereafter, nothing! I now have his SSN and his Navy Service #. It has been reported that a Frank COAKLEY is on the 1953 Cambridge, Middlesex Co, MA Death Index 34/274 and I wrote Jan 20 to the City Clerk to obtain copies. There were several other Frank COAKLEYs there in that era, so who knows?? I have been told that there are no Silver Springs City Directories for this era, no NY State Cen after 1925 which did not show Frank, and that he is not in the local Silver Springs, NY Cemeteries. I have a 2 yr req out to obtain his Navy Service Records. They confirmed a file but they can't find [email protected]$%&!. I also wrote 1/23 to the RR Retirement board in Chicago. I have searched all Middlesex Co, MA estate rec. I have searched Catholic Ch rec from Watertown to Wayland in Middlesex Co, MA where his families previously resided. I have not searched any death rec anywhere after 1937. I have not searched for any obits. The Wyoming Co, NY Historian Stanley Rutherford is presently searching Wyoming Co rec. Thanks Stanley! I have searched the SS Death Index without finding any possibilities. I need to search the MA & NY m rec after 1920 to see if he had other marriages. I need to search the MA & NY death Indexes after 1937. I need to search the Catholic Ch rec for the Silver Springs area of NY. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks again, I appreciate your efforts very much and understand your current handicaps. Hang in there. I am seeking information on the various Nichols families who resided in Genesee and Wyomong Counties, New York. My ancestor, Riley T. Nichols was born in Genesee (later Wyoming County) in 1819, and married Phila Gay, daughter of Samuel Gay and Betsey Logan in 1841. They later removed to Gratiot County, Michigan where Riley died in 1868. I notice that a large number of the Zadock and Malinda Nichols family are buried in the Dale Pioneer Cemetery. Perhaps Riley was their son. Also a Barber Nichols who supposedly had 19 children lived in Wyoming Co. for a time. Any information on the Nichols family of Genesee and Wyoming County would be appreciated, particularly those that might be the ancestors of my Riley T. Nichols. Also any information on the Samuel and Betsey Gay family. Thank you. Leeta M. Inman [email protected]
Hi Hal, You can get by without a date if the name isn't overly common, at least out here in the counties in the "sticks"....you probably might not get away with it in Erie or Monroe though!! AND, to make matters a little worse, it's not uncommon for an immigrant to have filled out their papers for their Intent in one state, but then Naturalize in another state! As far as WHERE to find the records, I know that in Genesee County, they told me that the Naturalization records had been moved from the County Clerk's to the Historians....SO, I went to the Historian's, where I was told that the very OLD ones, which was what I was looking for, were still at the Clerk's, because they were originally filed in the Miscellaneous books, and not in their own books. SO, I went BACK to the Clerk's, where they INSISTED that ALL the Naturalization records had been moved! I did finally get one of the girls from the Historian's Office to CALL the County Clerk's Office and explain the situation, so that when I got back there, I actually found the record I wanted!! Livingston County is also supposed to have moved their records to the Historian's, and I do know that at least SOME of them are there, because I found another one that I needed there. It's not that big of a deal for the Historian's to check the books for you, even if you don't have an exact date!! OR I should say....it SHOULDN'T be a big deal!!! GOOD LUCK!! Hi Jann, The County Seat for Wyoming County is Warsaw, so his naturalization records SHOULD be at the Wyoming County Historian's, and if not there, then the County Clerk's Office. Most of the counties kept these records at the County Clerk's Office, but have since moved them to their County Historian's...I've never looked for Naturalization records in Wyoming County, so I'm not certain on that one!! I am looking for information on the death of my Brother and Sister in Butavia. They died in a fire on my grandfathers farm on Francis Rd. in Feb 1955. There names were Donald and Joann Vanbuskirk. I would like to correspond with any family out there. Dean and Janet Billings , 3009 Fast Trot Trail, Lake Wales,FL 33898
