The NYC Municipal Archives has searchable microfilms of birth indexes and certificates up to and including 1909. They began approximately 1861 with the cities of Brooklyn and New York (Manhattan) only. In 1898, when the area became "Greater New York City," records were incorporated from the Bronx, Queens and Richmond Counties.
