Often a directory of a specific area, will list street names as well as name changes. Dates of name changes are important when looking for a property since it may yeild the original name and any subsequent name changes. Sanborn fire insurance maps might also show the street changes over time. A tediuos but well worth the effort especially in a built up area. A local library may have copies or an historical society may help in finding them.
