    2. Corlandttown, or today known as the Town of Cortlandt, Westchester County, incorporates Buchanan and Verplanck, and once Peekskill, which later became its own city. Many Irish immigrants worked in the brickyards and coal mines of Verplanck, as early as 1840. Some brickyards had companion yards across the Hudsonin Haverstra and Stony Point, NY. Often workers would board ships across the river. Yet, they had to immigrate through somewhere...the port of New York? Some were Naturlaized in New York County, others were Naturalized in Westchester and Rockland counties.
