    2. Hello, Maureen, My GG grandmother was Esther PALMER. She was born in 1782 (unknown location) and died in Richfield Springs, Otsego Co. N.Y. in 1828. She was married to Joseph LAYTON, b. 1774 in N.J. and died 1859 in Richfield Springs, N.Y. They had five children. They are both buried in Richfield Springs. I have lots of info about the Palmers -- there are a number of Esthers, but none of them are mine. I don't suppose you may have "my Esther"? 3. No, Jean, unfortunately I don't have your Esther. My 7th g-grandfather, Matthew Smith, was living with Thomas Palmer in Eastchester when Thomas drowned at Hellgate when his boat swamped. Matthew was with him and survived. I speculate that Matthew was about 16 yrs old at the time. I know that Thomas Palmer was the son of Wm (Palmer) of Wethersfield CT who removed with his family to Eastchester some years before . I'm trying to find out if Matthew Smith was related to the Palmers or maybe an apprentice and how he got to Eastchester and from where. Thomas was only 29 yrs old when he drowned so I suspect that he took Matthew in when Wm Palmer died.....can't be sure though....and have no idea where Matthew went after Thomas died. He shows up next in my records as witnessing a will in Eastchester for a man named Gee in 1716.
