Hi again, Looks like my email opened a Pandora's Box! Let me explain a little about Ebay. This CD is for sale by the seller for $29.95. You can buy it on the spot for that amount and don't have to bid. Often the seller will put the same item up for bid with a lower starting price. People bid on the lower priced item hoping to get it for less than the regular price. Sometimes they bid more than the cost of the item because they get "carried away". When everyone (on the list) it bidding on the same item, the price goes up as everyone is bidding on one CD. I bought this CD a few weeks ago for $10.99 because this list didn't know about it and nobody bid against me. It was a good idea to ask the seller for a lower price but usually they don't do this. The seller will most likely continue to offer one CD every week with the starting price of $9.99 or $10.99 so if everyone is patient the can wait it out and probably can get the CD for less than the $29.95 price. Please note there are several Westchester CD's on Ebay (many almost the same as the one I mentioned above.) They sell for less. Go to Ebay and type in Westchester genealogy and you will find more. This CD is similar Genealogy and History of WESTCHESTER County New York and you can Buy it Now for $17.50 or less. This seller lets you "make an offer" which means if you offer him $15.00 he might sell it to you for that price. You can put this search number in Ebay and find it right away 230075093756 This seller has 12 to sell at this price. Note: If you have never used Ebay you don't know what you are missing! Just put in a town or a surname and you'd be amazed at what you can find! Again, I'm just passing along information. I have no connection to any of the sellers on Ebay. I just buy items for myself or the historical societies (at their request). Jean Ann
Having bought and sold on eBay I agree with what Jean Ann has offered below. I would also like to add that (on the Australian site at least) one of the guidelines states: to be protected by eBay's safety measures including the Buyer Protection Program it is essential you always complete your transaction on the site - do not trade outside of eBay with people you meet at eBay. Be wary of sellers who respond slowly or try to entice you to trade outside of eBay. Check the seller's Feedback rating and positive, neutral and negative comments provided by other members. View the sellers other items to assess the overall quality and type of items the seller trades and closely examine photographs to assess an item's condition and check that it is a genuine photo of the actual item being sold. Having said all that, I have actually purchased eight CDs from the other source Jean Ann lists below, including the Genealogy and History of Westchester County, New York again on sale as Buy Now, or by auction (search: 230094264698), which means I have a lot of reading to do!! Already, part of the above CD, the "Early Wills of Westchester County, New York : from 1664 to 1784" has allowed me to confirm Mary HUNT was the wife of Nathaniel UNDERHILL and her parents were John and Grace HUNT (nee FOWLER). Many (sometimes conflicting!!) records online are very helpful as a guideline, but finding credible sources that confirm these records is a necessity. The search engines, quality and quantity of the CDs I have purchased have been excellent and very helpful when researching from so far away.
