    3. The fees mentioned are much higher than anything I have heard relating to the New York State Library in Albany. I believe Gabriel was referring to the New York (City) Library. A lot of things cost more in NYC, but wages are higher also. 3. Cliff, I believe it all shakes out in the wash--we make more money here by NYC, but we have to when houses start at half a million dollars, and the cost of everythinbg else is higher too, including archival fees. Generally speaking we all end up with about the same buying power. I also want to thank you for the wonderful work you have done on the Columbia County cemeteries. Thanks to you, I found out that a 3G grandfather others had assumed was dead had in fact moved across the border from Mass to Kinderhook, remarried, and had 2 more children. The remarriage preceded the divorce by a couple of years. I first found the gravestone for the 2nd wife from your lists. Subsequently I found the resting places of 3Gs mother and sister. My current query: 3G ended up in the "county farm." Do you know where I could find the poorhouse records regarding admissions, deaths, and burials? He was still at the farm in the 1860 census. As an aside, his oldest son had done very well in life. 3Gs mother resided with him in the lap of luxery, and is buried in a lovely family plot in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. 3G and 2nd wife were no longer together at the time of the 1850 census--the returns show just the wife and 2 children. Mathew has yet to be located for that year. 3. My fee for researcher to find and copy 3 pages was $5. per page, plus postage through NYPL, NYC. which was $3. I didn't opt for overnight--total on charge card--$18.. Required much communication back and forth. I have since discovered I was dealing with digitalized directories --none back of 1871. I would have been better off asking someone to do microfilm look-up, which they do have available.
