As far as I know, Bedford,NY, was part of Stamford and New Canaan in the early days--part of what was called the "elbow"---even over to Katonah(Chief Katonah sold Ridgefield to the early settlers -a Norwalk company). New Canaan was a colony of Norwalk as was Ridgefield. What I am saying is that there was confusion for a long time!
