    1. Re: [NYWESTCH] [LEFAUCHEUR] Researching Jean Le Faucheur (FOSHAY) from France
    2. I have found lots of information about the Huguenots who left France in the 15 and 1600s due to unbelievable religious persecution. In 1536 there was a General Edict urging extermination of all Huguenots! The worst came on August 24, 1573, which was Saint Bartholomew's Day when the Queen, (Catherine de Medici) approved of a new wave of extermination of all Protestants. The Queen herself gave the signal for the killing to begin. 3000 were killed in Paris, 70,000 in all of France. (Go to Google and read about it -- it will curl your hair!) My gggg grandparents were lucky to escape to Holland where after several years they boarded De Vergulde Bever (the Gilded Beaver) on May 15, 1658 and arrived on Aug 18 -- a really fast trip! I did this research several years ago, so I don't remember all the sources of info, but I used Google a lot and I got the Ship and Passenger Information from "First Settlement of New York by the Dutch" I believe that Cyndi's List has info about the Huguenots! Good Luck, Jean ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
