I have been doing a lot of research in Ulster County and have learned that shortly after the Dutch left NYC in about 1660 when the Duke of York came sailing in, a group of Huguenots purchased a very large portion of what was Ulster County at that time. Ulster then gave land to Orange and to Greene and became a lot smaller, but the French names []and their Anglicization are still very obvious in much of the research I do. I was happy to learn that the flight to Holland is what precluded their strength as Reformed Dutch Church members, because I never had made that connection. Since Ulster was a very large county and had so many French surnames, it would be a good bet to look there as well. I have du Bois, Palmatier and Alliger as surnames in Ulster so far.
