Hi Maureen, One of the databases, American Civil War Soldiers Name: Samuel H Smith , Residence: Ashford, Connecticut Enlistment Date: 4 Oct 1861 Side Served: Union State Served: Connecticut Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 04 October 1861 Enlisted in Company B, 11th Infantry Regiment Connecticut on 14 November 1861. Wounded on 17 September 1862 at Antietam, MD Received a disability discharge Company B, 11th Infantry Regiment Connecticut on 25 October 1862 ============================== One more thing .... Do you happen to know Samuel H's wife's name? <g> If it was Mary A. Smith, then I 'think' I found CWwidow's pension record .... It is for Smith, Samuel H, B 11 Conn. Inf. (right unit), BUT the filing date looks to be July 1870 (and you say he died in 1871?) Maybe I'm reading the image incorrectly (?). I can send you the image. Also, if his wife's name is something else, let me know ... Again, there are a LOT of Samuel Smiths, even quite a few Samuel H Smiths <g> Maureen in NJ On 4/29/07, quillpen1 <quillpen1@optonline.net> wrote: > Thanks, Maureen. > > Here's what is on the cemetery card: Smith, Samuel H, dob 1808, dod Aug > 15,1871, date of enlistment Oct 4 1861, date of discharge Oct 25, 1862, > Wounded Sept 17, 1862 at Antietom, MD (that's the spelling on the card). > > I know from family records and Dale Cemetery records that birth and death > dates are correct so that would have made him 53 yrs old at time of > enlistment. > > Maureen
Thanks, Maureen. That is the same Samuel H Smith as on the cemetery card with all the same info......yet NARA can't find him. Samuel's wife's name was Almyra (Ward) Smith and he outlived her. She died in 1869......and yes, he died in August 1871.
