Here's what I have, Dick: Smith, Samuel H Address: Ashford ,CT......I am puzzled about this address because I never knew Sam to have lived in Ashford but he could have I suppose. Date of Burial Aug 18, 1871 ......this is accurate too Cemetery Dale Cememtery Ossining, Sec6, Lot4, Book no1, page no 32 Date of Enlistment Oct4,1861 at Unknown Date of Discharge Oct 25,1862 Branch of Service Co B 14 Conn Vol ..... then 14 is crossed out and 11 is placed above Vol Rank Private Type of marker or Stone G.A.R. Marker and private stone War Record Wounded Sept 17, 1862 ar Antietom Md. I copied everything just as it appears on the card. I had no idea that Sam had ever been in the Civil War.....look how old he was. His son George Smith was also in the Civil War but he was 18 when he enlisted. I have a copy of a plaque with his name and stats along with all the other men in his regiment. George was in the Cavalry. Something else that could be pertinent. Sam had the title of Captain in his obit. I have no idea what he was a captain of but his wife's family were shipbuilders.
