Bill and Joan Olive Tree does have information on immigrants from France but it is more related to those from Navarre or the former Basque lands in SW France. They were mainly Huguenot or French Reformed and they left due to the fighting between them and the Catholics. Most went to the Netherlands to their coreligionist the Dutch Reformed and then on to New Amsterdam, later New York. This happened the later part of the 1600's. My maternal grandmother's family did just that, only they later moved to NJ because of greater availability of cheaper land.
