A few months ago I communicated with another who was also researching the above surname. I was just starting to work this name--a female line to my Silkworth (John Worthington Silkworth). I posted it on the list for some "starter" clues. I received some good suggestions--hers, "try Amos Wood". I've been trying to work on it whenever I have "genie" time. It's Duchess County and I had not investigated Duchess previously--only Ulster. Today, I found a book:"Records of the Chancery Court Province and State of New York, Guardianships 1691 -1815". abstracted by Dr Kenneth Scott, published by the Holland Society of New York. There is a Petition dated 25 January, 1802 filed by "Uriah Wood of Cornwell, Orange Co, brother of Amos Wood". The children listed in the petition are names I've seen used in subsequent Silkworth generations. One of the 4 children listed was named Mary--who was 7 years old at the date of the record. John W. Silkworth and Mary Maria Wood were married 27 November 1814, 10 days after this Mary turned 16. Their first child was named Amos W. Silkworth. The 3 other children named in the petition are Sylvanus [11], James [9], and Elisha [5] Wood. These are a lot of coincidences that have me intrigued! I' m REALLY hoping my previous correspondent will read this and contact me again! Jan jgrellim@sbcglobal.net
