Hi All, How can I find a record of a possible indentured servant who might have arrived in Eastchester directly from England sometime between 1650 and 1681?? Or possibly arrived in CT and then migrated to Eastchester with whomever paid his way?? I'll explain: My brickwall 7th g-grandfather was listed as a "servant" of Thomas Palmer in Eastchester in 1681 when Thomas drowned at Hellgate. Thomas died intestate and a copy of his belongings showed he left little even for that day and age. So I had assumed that Matthew was an apprentice.... possibly for Thomas or maybe for Thomas' father Wm Palmer (Wm of Wethersfield, CT) who came to Eastchester several years before and had died before Thomas drowned. Today on another list there was a discussion of indentured servants to Canada. It dawned on me that Matthew Smith might have been that type of "servant" and instead of coming to the colonies with parents he might have come alone. For a decade now I have been fruitlessly searching records for Matthew's family......maybe he had no family here. He would have been quite young though because he was still living in 1749 according to MacKenzie. Also, does anyone know how old an indentured servant had to be to come alone to the colonies?? Thanks, Maureen
