I will be very interested to hear the outcome. I STILL have a bad taste in my mouth from my interaction with the Port Chester clerk. Very unpleasant. Yes, I have seen books where some jerk ripped a page out, and I can certainly understand if they don't want people handling the books without supervision, but to act as if the sky will fall if I happen to see someone else's name from 1890...when I can go 5 miles over the CT border and sit down and peruse the books all morning. How could the privacy needs be so different 5 miles apart? My worst experience was in Rockland County, where the clerk was indignant that I tried to read - upside down - the entries in the marriage register of 100+ years ago. As though my eyes were going to take something away......
