    2. I grew up in Stamford CT. I had two friends that were sons of immigrants, and could not speak English. They were sent home and the parents were told to have them learn English and come back next year. Both did and both became successful in life. Why aren't we doing something like this today?     3. When I started school, in 1926, (yes, they had schools then) many of my schoolmates could barely speak English in Kindergarten, but by first grade they spoke English as well as we did. How? By playing with us. Yes, why don't they do that these days.
