    3. I have the book "Names, Names, & More Names - Locating Dutch Ancestors in Colonial America" by Arthur C.M. Kelly (1999). He worked with a lot of Dutch names as he transcribed Eastern New York Dutch and Lutheran church records for over 60 books. According to him, Dercktje/Dercktie and Dirckje/Dirkje and variations mean Theodora. In the book there is no name beginning with Di- or De- which translates to Dorothy. Most begin with Do-, a few with Du-, the closest being Dortje. It is a valuable book if you don't mind the pages falling out of this poorly-glued paperback. Cliff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    3. Thanks, Cliff. I have a few poorly glued paperbacks like that. LOL. My legal dictionary falls apart regularly no matter what I do to keep it together. Maybe because it gets so much use....I've found it better for synonyms than most regular dictionaries. Theodora does sound like an old-fashioned name that would be used during that period. I have a great uncle on the Smith side named Theodore. I clutch at all straws and sometimes it works.
